Abstract: "Germany remains one of the leading exporting nations, even after the severe economic and financial crisis 2008/2009 and the associated global slump in demand. The ongoing globalization is often associated with rising wage dispersion and job losses. This brief report examines the wage growth in the manufacturing sector, a sector with a high export share. The focus lies on the differences between exporting and non-exporting firms. The main result is that exporting plants in the manufacturing sector pay up to ten percent higher wages than non-exporting firms, even after it has been taken into account that employees in exporting plants are on average better educated and have longer work experience."
