Abstract: Digital technologies for teaching and learning have the potential to increase the quality of education and training provided in vocational schools throughout Europe. The key to reaching digital competences in vocational education and training (VET) students is to ensure that their teachers and in-company trainers have the digital competences necessary in these times. To improve the readiness of schools with regard to using digital technologies, the European Commission developed SELFIE, an online tool to support them in making the most of digital technologies for teaching and learning. SELFIE has now also been expanded to include work-based settings. To test its preliminary version, it was piloted in Romania in November and December 2020. Enhancing the link between in-company trainers and VET teachers is a need indicated by the pilot’s results, for which new digital tools can make substantial contributions. In summary, the pilot phase has shown that the SELFIE WBL tool supports VET schools and companies in understanding the strengths and weaknesses of their digital training.
