Abstract:
The paper considers interaction among participation in the Food Stamp Program (FSP), food security status and food away from home expenditures. Current Population Survey-Food Security Supplement data and a Quadratic Almost Ideal Demand System with a bootstrapping two-step method are used. The results show that FSP participation is endogenously related with food security status and significantly affects total food expenditure. Food security status also has a significant effect on the likelihood of eating out and share of food away from home (FAFH) expenditures. The effects of FSP participation on FAFH are insignificant.
