A Dynamic Cohort Microsimulation Model

Justin van de Ven

No 637, Department of Economics - Working Papers Series from The University of Melbourne

Abstract: This paper provides a description of a dynamic cohort microsimulation model that has been constructed to generate the lifetime attributes for a cohort of males and, where relevant, their families so that the characteristics of the cohort at any age are reflective of the Asutralian population. Given the scarcity of longitudinal data in Australia, the model has been developed to enable an analysis of income inequality to be undertaken within a lifetime context from which inferences about Australian society can be made.
