Abstract: This paper examines why the distribution of income in the United Kingdom has become much less equal in recent years. A first step to understanding factors which may have led to this changed income distribution must be to produce a satisfactory descriptive model of income distribution itself. The authors propose a mode which simultaneously explains income transition and cross-sectional income distribution.
