Abstract:
The Maastricht Treaty sets convergence criteria for public sector borrowing which must be met before economic and monetary union can take place. This paper discusses the concept of debt sustainability and its relation to monetary union. Statistical tests are applied to test for debt sustainability amongst countries that are members of the EHIVI. Contact NIESR if copy required
