European Economic Integration
Eduard Marinov
MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany
Abstract:
A textbook on European economic integration. The book presents readers with a brief but comprehensive overview of the processes of European economic integration taking place after the Second World War, with the main aim of presenting them from an economic perspective. This book attempts to provide an overview of the general framework of the European economic integration process, focusing on the legal framework, the institutional structure, the main achievements of the Internal Market, Economic and Monetary Union and the Common Commercial Policy. The policies external to the process of economic integration and the main sectoral and functional policies of the European Union are briefly presented, and the ambition of the author is after extensive research to expand this part of the publication in the future. The publication covers many diverse topics related to European economic integration, and the author's aim in the short thematic chapters is to present both the logic behind the development of relevant areas of the integration process over time and the latest developments. As the EU integration process is constantly evolving, and often very dynamic, the individual chapters focus on understanding the main features of the areas concerned and how and why they came about. There are many and very diverse economic issues that are directly related to the process of European integration - from the history of the European Communities, through the law and institutions of the European Union, the nature and development of the Common Market, Economic and Monetary Union, Common Commercial Policy. sectoral and functional policies implemented by the European Union. Certainly, the content of the book lacks certain areas in which the European Union's action is essential. The author's aspiration is not exhaustive, as this would require the publication of a multi-volume edition, but rather the presentation of those aspects of integration processes in Europe that are important primarily for economic integration. The book is designed to provide a systematic and accessible knowledge of the current state and prospects of European integration processes to students and researchers, as well as politicians, government officials, business representatives and the general public.
