Eduard Marinov and Daniela Bobeva

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: The article aims at disclosing the potential of Sub-Saharan Africa as a possible market for the diversification of Bulgarian international trade. It firstly presents the region of Sub-Saharan Africa from and economic perspective. Then it summarizes the trends in Bulgaria’s trade relations with the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa, analyzing trade dynamics for the period 2003-2015 and Bulgaria’s place within the EU. The competitive niches of Bulgarian products are presented based on a study on the commodity structure of trade. Finally the article discusses the results of an empirical study of the attitudes of Bulgarian business towards trade relations with Sub-Saharan Africa to identify some of the causes for the unutilized trade potential.
