Abstract: Visitor management has become an important issue for tourist attractions and tourist destinations, especially in congested and overcrowded areas suffering from overtourism effects. Adopting solutions to limit different negative impacts helps to manage tourist flows and enhance the quality of the experience and liveability of destinations. This study explores a set of visitor management measures adopted by five Italian destinations such as Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples and other emblematic cases. This research aims to highlight the variety and complexity of visitor management measures due to several aspects in terms of legal, technical, organizational and economic dimension, and their implementation process. In addition this study emphasizes how visitor management measures are integrated into more comprehensive visitor management systems within the development of sustainable policies. Lo studio pubblicato è stato finanziato dall'Unione Europea – NextGenerationEU, nell’ambito del progetto iNEST - Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem (iNEST ECS_00000043 – CUP H43C22000540006).
