No 19, Working Papers from Yildiz Technical University, Department of Economics

Abstract: Entrepreneurship has become an attractive field of study for businessmen, economists and academicians all over the world. For economically developed countries, entrepreneurship means revitalization of economic activities and a solution to unemployment by letting new job opportunities emerge. For economically developing countries, on the other hand, entrepreneurship has an even more important role as a tool for creating new job opportunities and accelerating economic development (Mueller and Thomas, 2000). With emergence of new entrepreneurs it will be possible for our country to overcome the recession caused by recent crisis and to have a stabilized economical conjuncture. Education of new entrepreneurs in compliance with world standards from primary school to higher education levels will be considered as a very healthy development for economic status and future of our country In the first part of this study, entrepreneurship in Turkey and its historical evolution will be discussed and our national policies during this evolution process will be explained. In the second part, data on entrepreneurship education in Turkey will be put forth and national entrepreneur development policies will be emphasized.
