Abstract:
Employees in jobs that require no or only low skills (low-skilled work) are considered to be a problematic group of the labour market. Employing the IAB-Establishment Panel this study analyzes the development of low-skilled work and examines the impact of the 2008/2009 global economic crisis. The results show that the development of low-skilled work depends crucially on the economic sector. Further we apply difference-in-differences-estimators and find within those establishments affected by the economic crisis the number of employees in low-skilled work decreased by almost 10%. This contrasts to the decline of 3,3% in the number of persons who perform jobs which require vocational skills and qualifications.
