Abstract: The structure and organization of human society is quite perplexing and filled with a variety of individuals who often interact with each other in different ways. Nevertheless, up to now, how to understand the effect of these multifarious population on the dynamics of cooperation still needs further exploration. Herein, we put forward a novel co-evolutionary game model to study the evolutionary cooperation dynamics based on reputation in a mixed population with two interactive species of strategists (i.e., node-type strategists and link-type strategists). We utilize a compound Fermi function to characterize the possibility for a focal player to imitate the strategy of chosen neighbor, in which the parameter μ is introduced to represent how much a strategist depends on reputation during the process of strategy imitation. Through large quantities of numerical simulations, the results indicate that even if the living environment of strategists in the spatial structure deteriorates gradually, the reputation-driven imitation rule can alleviate this bad situation and restore the prosperity of collective cooperation. In addition, the micro-exploration of the spatial cooperative cluster shows that the link-type strategists can adopt different strategies when confronting different partners, which plays an important role in facilitating the evolution of cooperation. On the one hand, they cooperate with the players holding the cooperation strategy; on the other hand, they punish the defective partners, which not only protects the cooperative cluster but also prevents the further expansion of the defective cluster. The current research greatly enriches the understanding of the widespread cooperation exhibited within many real-world systems.
