 Poland in International Supply Chains in 1995-2020: Global Value Chains and Shift-Share AnalysisMagdalena Kapela European Research Studies Journal, 2024, vol. XXVII, issue 4, 1102-1121 Abstract: Purpose: To analyse Poland's position within international supply chains in 1995-2020, focusing on changes in Global Value Chains (GVCs). Design/Methodology/Approach: The study employs Global Value Chains analysis and shift-share analysis (SSA) to assess the dynamics of Poland's integration into global networks. Data from the OECD Trade in Value Added Database is used to measure changes in domestic and foreign value-added contributions from 1995 to 2020. Findings: The analysis reveals significant changes in Poland's GVC participation, with increased reliance on foreign inputs and enhanced domestic value-adding capabilities. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for greater supply chain resilience. The study is limited by the availability and granularity of data from the OECD database. Practical Implications: Insights can guide policymakers in strengthening Poland's economic resilience and competitiveness in global markets. Enhanced understanding of GVCs can inform strategies to mitigate employment vulnerabilities in highly integrated sectors.
