Abstract:
"This paper shows that a fusion of qualitative and quantitative methods in social research must not only consist of counting words in qualitative documents, exemplifying statistics by case studies, generating hypotheses by qualitative exploration studies or the like. Beyond that, typological analysis can give a key step in preparing convergent findings from both methodological positions. This will be justified by philosophical considerations relating to the Vienna Circle. The paper will discuss outstanding examples as well as the reasons for their seldomness, and will show basic requirements for developing integrative typologies from quantitative and qualitative data."
