Abstract:
"The inequality of wages among the full time employed in West Germany increased considerably between 1980 and 2010. In the beginning the increase was restricted to the upper part of the wage disribution. From the mid 1990s onwards until 2010, wage inequality increased as well among low-wage earners and their real wages strongly declined. Since 2010 real wages have grown again throughout the distribution, yet wage inequality has remained high despite a small reduction in wage inequality at the very bottom of the distribution since 2015. This paper analyzes the trends in wage inequality and discusses possible data related problems." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
