National institutions and logistic performance: a path analysis

Service Business, 2015, vol. 9, issue 4, 733-747

Abstract: The endogenous factors that drive logistics performance have generated substantial literature. Our understanding of exogenous factors, such as national institutions, that determine logistics performance is still underdeveloped. We used a path analysis to examine the influence of six institutional constructs on logistics performance for 116 countries. Our findings show that five of the six institutional constructs—political risk, financial risk, economic freedom, political freedom, and competitiveness—have direct or indirect influences on logistics performance. Our model was tested using summated variables. Future research may aggregate manifest variables to ascertain relevant institutional variables for a parsimonious model.
