Foreign Direct Investment Entry Modes: A Study of the Empirical Literature

Abstract: This work is a review of quantitative empirical studies extracted from the international literature on equity entry modes used by manufacturing companies in foreign markets. The work synthesizes and evaluates the contribution of the extant literature on the topic, and identifies the cumulative knowledge from the 1990-2011 period concerning the antecedents to foreign direct investment entry-mode decisions and the impact these entry modes have on subsidiary performance, in order to offer researchers a set of suggestions to more effectively build their studies based on existing knowledge.
