Abstract:
This teaching case is based on the short documentary Maracatu, Maracatus, and explores the dynamics of a maracatu group, Maracatu Morro Alto, located on the outskirts of the city of Recife, in the state of Pernambuco. It seeks to emphasize the importance of popular culture for members of the Morro Alto community; the meanings attributed to the work developed in this context; the maracatu while organizing; the management exercised by the masters of maracatu as practices; and the main conflicts currently experienced by maracatu. The case is mainly intended for undergraduate social science, anthropology, and management students, as well as those interested in understanding the dynamics of popular culture, specifically, maracatu developed in Pernambuco. JEL Classification Codes: A2, Z1, N16.
