Abstract:
The aim of this study is to present Romania from the perspective of some basic indicators measuring the circular economy, and to provide an overview of the most important elements of the circular strategy. An overview of the transition towards a circular economy allows us to formulate the country’s short-term perspectives at the Romanian level. In the first part of the study, we review the international and Romanian literature on the circular economy, and then we present the evolution of some basic circular economy indicators in Romania, linking them to the government’s efforts so far. We also present a brief summary of some key elements of the Romanian circular strategy. Based on the indicators in the EU monitoring system developed by the European Commission (EC, 2023), we present the ranking of Central and Eastern European countries, assessing Romania's position in this ranking.
