GAZDÁLKODÁS: Scientific Journal on Agricultural Economics, 2025, vol. 69, issue 01

Abstract: In the fall of 2023, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences launched a public discussion forum for its members on the use of Hungarian as a scientific language. As stated in the call, one of the most important missions of the Academy since its foundation has been the maintenance of the Hungarian language. Gazdálkodás is the only Hungarian-language scientific journal in the field of agricultural economics and farm management, and its editorial board therefore considered it its duty to carry out the tasks set by the Academy from the very beginning, and in its 2024/1 issue it published a position statement entitled On the Use of the Hungarian Language in Scientific Journals (Editorial Board, 2024). In accordance with the position statement, the editorial board focuses on the issues of maintaining and maintaining the Hungarian language and its everyday difficulties in its own field of expertise, in agricultural economics and farm management. This study, by analyzing an issue of the journal Gazdálkodas, assesses what foreign terms the authors use when processing the content of their publications, and how justified the use of these terms is. The main conclusion of the analysis is that almost every foreign term has a Hungarian equivalent, and in many cases these more accurately describe the content intended to be expressed.
