Abstract:
The objective of the study is to examine the nature of farmer producer companies, which help to raise the income levels of farmers’ households in West Bengal. The study is based mainly on secondary sources taken from existing literature and some primary data have also been collected from two Farmer Producer companies of Uttar Dinajpur district of West Bengal through telephonic interview. FPCs will have the capacity of generating social capital within its members, with Facilitator Company as they maintain social networks with local suppliers and clients as well as other FPCs and other social organizations. The greater cooperation, mutual trust etc. within the group or with others will lead to reduction of conflicts, corruption etc. Framers will become entrepreneurs through FPCs which engaged in selling of agricultural inputs like seeds, fertilizers, agricultural machineries etc., in buying of agricultural outputs like paddy, wheat, jute etc. and in various value addition activities. The two FPCs in Uttar Dinajpur district are facilitated by BAXIS Krishi Samruddhi Ltd. Farmers of two FPCs in Uttar Dinajpur district become entrepreneurs as they engaged in various business activities. But there is found lack of mutual trust between Facilitator Company and FPCs in Uttar Dinajpur district.
