The European Green Deal and the "greening" of agriculture and the Common Agricultural Policy

Abstract: The subject of this study is the concept of the new European green deal with particular reference to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the role of agriculture in greening processes, and especially in striving to preserve environmental protection, biodiversity and counteract climate change. Currently, the concept of the green economy implemented in the European Union has been named the European Green Deal. A special role in the implementation of the green deal is attributed to the greening of the CAP, the modernized strategy for the flow of food "From farm to fork" in shortened supply chains, the creation of new forms of the closed-loop economy and various activities to prevent climate change. All green concepts are linked to the paradigm of sustainable development and in the developed strategies become a form of its implementation. The work uses the literature on the subject and documents formulated by the agencies of the European Union, the United Nations and other international institutions and organizations. The introduction of the green deal in agriculture and rural areas requires the creation of a new architecture for linking the production tasks of agriculture with activities affecting the improvement of the environment and climate, as well as an efficient system for assessing non-production activities, measuring their effects and costs. The involvement of agriculture in the creation of public goods should be appropriately rewarded. The implementation of green concepts of sustainable development requires investment and educational support. Green development concepts contain many ambitious assumptions and may be considered overly optimistic.
