Abstract:
The main objective of the article was to characterize the areas of common use in Poland in the context of their importance in the production and acquisition of food. Public forests, land communities, community gardens and family allotment gardens in Poland were described along with the functions they perform. Using fragmentary secondary data and the results of our own research, the size of the areas of common use and the amount of food obtained in this way in Poland was estimated. The article opens a discussion on the importance of areas managed in a community manner in Poland from the economic, social and environmental point of view, as well as the political implications of appreciating the role of such areas.
