Abstract:
Local government authorities are responsible, on the one hand, for pursuing a rational financial management policy, and on the other hand, they are obliged to implement pro-development activities that contribute, among others, to raising the standard of living of residents. The aim of the research was to identify multidimensional relationships between the financial condition of rural communes in Poland and the standard of living of their residents. The first part of the article introduces the concept of the standard of living and the financial condition of local government units. The second part discusses selected results of surveys conducted among chairmen and vice-chairmen of commune councils in January and February 2022. As part of the research, canonical analysis was used, and four statistically significant canonical variables were identified. The value of the largest and most statistically significant canonical correlation was close to 0.90, and for the last statistically significant canonical variable, this value was equal to over 0.75. The research on which this article is based was carried out as part of research project no. 2021/05/X/HS4/00137 financed by the National Science Centre.
