Complexity, Diversity, and Stability Debate: Evidence from California County Data

Andrew Dabalen and George Goldman

No 201382, CUDARE Working Papers from University of California, Berkeley, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics

Abstract: A linear statistical model is used to test the hypothesis that higher levels of economic diversity are associated with more stability. We also compare the performance of several proposed indices of diversity in this linkage. The results show little sup ort for the primary hypothesis, and a mixed verdict for the second.
