Abstract:
This study explores the educational potential of interactive video platforms (IVPs) by comparing seven major tools: Edpuzzle, PlayPosit, Kaltura, Brightcove, Panopto, Wirewax and Mindstamp. Through a mixed-methods design, the study investigates how different IVP settings affect student engagement, comprehension and academic performance. Results from a quasi-experimental classroom study involving 317 students showed that video interactivity, question level and playback control significantly influenced learning outcomes. Additionally, the study offers a comparative analysis of IVPs based on interactivity, artificial intelligence (AI) integration, learning management systems (LMS) compatibility, analytics and pedagogical alignment in side-by-side tables. Edpuzzle, PlayPosit, Kaltura and Panopto emerged as the most suitable platforms for educational use. The target audience of this paper is K-12 and higher education teachers and administrators who are interested in making their courses more engaging and impactful. The findings provide educators with practical guidelines for selecting IVPs that align with their instructional goals and promote active learning in digital environments.
