Abstract: This paper provides an overview of the establishment of pre-exit philanthropy programmes in universities in the US, Australia and Canada, before discussing in detail how Imperial College London started the first pre-exit philanthropy programme at a university in the UK. Readers will learn the history of these programmes and gain insight into the detail of how one university established, grew and stewarded such a programme themselves.
