Abstract:
Abstract. Smoothed transition estimates of the counts and incidences of poverty from 1959 to 1990 are constructed for various segments of the California resident population. These estimates use the decennial censuses and the Survey of Income and Education as benchmarks lo develop annual linkages. It is presumed that smoothed estimates yield a charting of true time series trends. The segments of the population consist of all residents, whites, blacks, Hispanics, female family beads, and the elderly. The resulting estimates and a description of methodology, assumptions, and limitations are presented.
