Abstract: Abstract. Both editors and authors share in the common recognition of the need for improvement in the speed of the publication process. The current practice of exclusive submissions to scholarly journals causes long delays between the dispatch of a manuscript and its appearance in print that impacts adversely on the careers of many young scientists. This policy is unwise, inequitable, and probably contrary to the wishes of the majority of the members of associations. This is one of the editors’ prerogatives that should be relinquished or, at least, modified in order to provide a more workable, salutary, and balanced relationship between author and editor.
