Decision‐Making Success in Public, Private and Third Sector Organisations: Finding Sector Dependent Best Practice

Abstract: Strategic decisions in public, private and third sector organizations were examined to isolate and compare the practices used to uncover alternatives. The approaches applied to uncover alternatives in these organizations and decision outcomes were identified from a systematic examination of 376 strategic decisions. The preference for and sucess of innovation, benchmarking, search and existing solution approaches applied to uncover alternatives by decision makers in each sector is discussed. Some prescriptions are offered.
