Abstract: Currently, several theories of successful leadership are discussed critically with regard to contextual boundaries, and specified on the basis of empirical results. However, this context-oriented research is rarely grounded in theory, because within leadership research, no consistent system of organizational structural dimension existed yet. The current contribution tries to close this gap by testing a taxonomy of organizational structural dimensions. The defined structural dimensions result from a critical discussion of the current, mostly economic literature. The structural dimensions can be conceived as contextual conditions of effective leadership and thus, provide the opportunity for advances in leadership research.
