Abstract: In Germany, job-related training for elder employees is quite rarely. At a certain age of the employees, companies hardly invest in further education of their staff, it is also said that older employees themselves are not really willing to get advanced training. This exploratory case study in the electrical and electronic industry with 328 employees participating in the survey analyses their participation in job-related training by means of a standardized achievement motivation inventory to measure the motivation for trainings. The results show that the opinions due to public discussion cannot be confirmed. Employees older than 50 years are highly motivated in job-related training especially higher educated employees. Further, men show a higher willingness to learn than women. Regarding the demographic development a growing part of employees will be older than 50 years. Their motivation to learn does not seem to stand in contradiction to economic needs.
