Abstract: The rise in employment figures in Germany results for the most part on the extension of so-called atypical forms of employment, which often provide only precarious labour market integration. Against this background this article focuses the development of women’s employment, which is still characterised by the reconciliation of work and care obligations. It is analysed the perspectives and constraints of the concept of precariousness for an analysis of women’s employment patterns. The article pleads for a resumption of the debate on quality of work in order to develop an analytic framework for labour policy which is oriented at gender equality.
