Abstract:
Based on the assumption of a progressive emergence of a global labour market, the aim of this paper is to identify the determinants of the willingness to move across borders for work-related reasons and their consideration in a European comparison (N = 7220, Germany, France, Spain, Poland and Switzerland). Not only socio-demographic characteristics, but also the individual circumstances, resources and attitudes of respondents are considered to contribute to a deeper characterization of mobile work across borders. The results of our analyses show, that the willingness to become mobile is not only a utility calculation, but also depends on how many people are embedded to their homeland in a spatial, emotional and social way.
