Abstract:
The current digitalization clearly has an impact on employees’ work routine. However, the adoption of these new technologies does not always run smoothly. Referring to theoretical approaches as Science and Technology Studies, Information System Research, Practice Theory, Cultural Studies and Sociology of the Digital the paper investigates employees’ obstinacy and agency. Using the example of an empirical study on social media usage in companies it can be shown how work organization, specific individual attitudes as well as certain characteristics of the implemented technology prevent its use and hinder the emergence of new practices.
