Abstract:
This paper is concerned with coworking as a special concept of new work and presents the results of an empirical study. It aims to outline the dimensions of the concept of coworking and how it produces new design ideas and values for office work. The paper pursues the research interest to illustrate how and in what kind of variation the concept of coworking is adapted and practically implemented by different coworking space providers. Taking up the theoretical frame of Meyer’s and Rowan’s idea of “rationalized concepts”, the paper focuses on the legitimation process of the concept of coworking and how this concept produces a new understanding of “normality” for office work.
