Abstract: This article examines the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on labour platform companies and their crisis management strategies. Based on a qualitative study of ten companies that organize on-site and/or online platform work in Germany, the groups of crisis winners and crisis copers are identified. The findings show that central coping strategies were particularly the adaptation of offered services, the acquisition of new customers and in some cases even the adaptation of the business model, as well as the optimization of processes. Key resilience resources are in particular scalable and diversifiable ecosystems, the asset-light model, low fixed costs, and substantial outsourcing of risks. The article contributes to debates about the potential for expansion of platforms in the pandemic as well as the adaptability of platform companies to external, societal changes.
