Abstract:
This article deals with the potential of qualitative secondary analyses for labour research. While the debate on this topic has so far mainly revolved around questions of the preparation, archiving and provision of data sets, the focus here is on the successful implementation of secondary analyses and the associated methodological problems. Particular attention is paid to the quality of data sets (in terms of relevance and usable content for secondary analyses) and the contextualisation problems associated with them. These issues are discussed on the basis of an extensive and thematically diverse data set from labour research (project ‘Everyday life’) and different variants of its secondary analysis.
