Abstract: The essay analyzes the current trends and challenges of educational systems in Latin America, with a focus on Colombia. The main objective is to identify the most significant issues affecting education, such as social and economic inequality, limited access to quality education, and the influence of capitalism and globalization in the homogenization of ideas. Throughout the text, the challenges faced by Latin American countries in improving access and educational quality, particularly in vulnerable populations, are discussed. The inequalities in secondary and higher education are highlighted, where low-income students have fewer opportunities. The manuscript also examines the role of international organizations, such as UNESCO and the OECD, in the implementation of educational policies, and criticizes the lack of coherence in national reforms. Lastly, it argues that governments use education as a political tool, which limits real progress in terms of quality and equity, emphasizing the need for a more comprehensive and critical approach to address these structural challenges.
