Abstract:
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has made it possible to offer innovative alternatives and to turn the strengths of the internet into tools for teaching and learning. This study was conducted using a literature review approach. On the basis of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the main sources that addressed the relationships among AI, English language teaching, and university students were identified. The study identified five common trends in this regard: the use of adaptive platforms, the implementation of virtual assistants and chatbots, automated assessment, gamification, and data collection. The practical benefits apply to both students and teachers. AI contributes to the streamlining, quality, and sustainability of processes by motivating students and addressing deficiencies that are often difficult to resolve collectively, thereby enhancing the personalization of the English language teaching–learning process.
