Abstract: Currently, change affects organizations, it is said that there are two types of businesses, those that change and those that disappear. For change to be effective both organizations and people need to change. Today's businesses need to be adaptable and flexible, responsive to customer needs and cost-effective. The key to change involves learning, innovation, adopting behavior designed to enhance performance and quality. The effective designing of business processes is an important issue for the corporations. The need itself, to improve the existing business process in an organization, results in Business Process Reengineering. The Business Intelligence approach brings together business and IT tools, providing a bridge between the definition of a change strategy and its execution. This article aims to analyze of the implementation of the BPR model in the heavy industry by incorporating the highest level automation technologies, with emphasis on the “safety†. Focus of this study was on providing a comprehensive overview of BPR approaches, challenges and outcomes. There is still a need for exclusive and universally acceptable model for BPR as well as a commonly applicable methodology. BPR could act as an important strategic tool for sustained competitive advantage for companies in the present context.
