Naturkatastrophen und Klimaänderung: Befürchtungen und Handlungsoptionen der Versicherungswirtschaft

Abstract: The frequency of weather disasters has increased significantly during the last few decades and has presumable been influenced by climate change. This is also of concern to the insurance sector as it registers a rise in weather-related losses. The paper summarizes the loss trend and its causes and demonstrates that the insurance sector can contribute to a more environmentally friendly behaviour and not only to a better provision for the case of a disastrous event. Die Häufigkeit großer Wetterkatastrophen hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten deutlich zugenommen. Dies betrifft auch die Versicherungsbranche, die einen Anstieg der wetterbedingten Schadensfälle registriert. Der Beitrag fasst die Entwicklung zusammen und zeigt, dass die Versicherungswirtschaft durch eigenes Engagement dazu beitragen kann, nicht nur zur Schadenvorsorge, sondern auch zu umweltfreundlicherem Verhalten zu motivieren.
