Abstract: This short note uses a large administrative data set on the use of parental leave in Germany to explore whether fathers take paternity leave more often in some months than in others. Our results indicate that paternity leave is taken to a significantly greater extent during summer - independent from when the child is exactly born. Moreover, these seasonal effects are more pronounced when the total leave is shorter.
