Abstract: Regulations restricting greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions drive internal combustion engines to become more efficient and less polluted. Several innovative combustion techniques have been implemented to lessen the hazardous pollutants of diesel engines. Increasing the ignition energy is one of the most promising approaches. It can mitigate combustion knock and allow lean-burn operating on the Spark-Assist Compression Ignition (SACI) combustion. It has been demonstrated that SACI operates quite efficiently and may provide minimal NOx emissions, much like compression ignition combustion. By using SACI, direct control over burn rate and ignition timing has proven that it is feasible to use less petrol and pollution emissions while also overcoming several of the limitations.
