POLIDEMO: An electrochemical-mechanical framework for modeling lithium-ion batteries degradation

Abstract: Lithium-ion battery performance decay is driven by electrochemical and mechanical degradation, posing significant challenges for an accurate prediction of aging, which depends on battery design parameters and operating conditions. Physics-based models are extensively developed in the literature to address this issue. This work introduces POLIDEMO, a novel physics-based degradation model that predicts the evolution of electrical and mechanical performance during battery usage. POLIDEMO integrates the Single Particle Model to describe the electrochemical behavior with a mechanical sub-model to account for reversible deformation and stress within the electrode microstructure.
