Evaluation of steam-trap types using a non-integer rating method

Abstract:
Steam traps are essential in the management of steam in industry. Various rating methods of steam-trap types make it difficult to evaluate their performance in a particular steam and condensate system. Table 1 shows steam-trap characteristics and operating conditions that have been rated so far. A non-integer rating method from 0 to 3 is introduced to quantify these characteristics and conditions. In addition to Pajkin's reference rating table, two new 0–3 rating tables are obtained: integer ratings from the data of Schmidt and non-integer ratings from the data of Vallery. Universal acceptance has not been obtained for these ratings. A new rating table based on mean ratings is proposed.
