Energy, 2025, vol. 335, issue C

Abstract: To address the challenge of low thermal efficiency in hot dry rock (HDR) power generation systems, this study firstly integrates HDR power generation technology with combined heating and power (CHP) to develop a novel HDR-driven CHP system for condensing heat (CON) and tailwater coupled heat pump heating (CHP-CON-THP).Secondly, to evaluate the performance of the CHP-CON-THP system, experimental test platforms are established: a CHP experimental system based on an organic Rankine cycle for condensing heat supply (CHP-ORC-CON) and a heat pump (HP) experimental system based on a vapor compression cycle. The effects of heat source temperature and mass flow rate on system performance are investigated. Thirdly, the performance of CHP systems with different heating methods is compared. The results indicate that during the optimization process of the CHP-ORC-CON experimental system, its performance parameters are positively correlated with the heat source temperature and mass flow rate. Additionally, an increase in the low-temperature heat source temperature can enhance the performance of the HP experimental system. In the comparison of systems with different heating modes, the CHP-CON-THP system achieves a maximum thermal efficiency of 96.8 %, which is significantly superior to traditional systems. This result confirms the effectiveness of the system in realizing the cascade utilization of hot dry rock geothermal resources.
