Abstract:
This paper describes the planning and execution of a supply system in the healthcare industry of Latin America. The case documents the evolution of the Ricardo Palma Clinic, a leading medical facility in the private healthcare sector of Peru, and describes the supply challenges faced by Dr. Sebastian Cespedes, the general manager. The case facilitates discussions on how the supply management systems support the Clinic's strategy, as well as how practical decisions regarding the selection of suppliers, purchasing policies, product segmentation, and stock replenishment are made using smooth decision processes. The contrast of the differences in operation and control of the drugs and business supplies systems allows the reader to identify the challenges of synchronizing all supply systems in procurement, inventory, and warehousing.
