Dual Vector Control with Stator Flux Orientation of doubly fed induction machine for clean naval propulsion

Abstract: Although electric propulsion has long been employed in marine applications, the ongoing decarbonization of the maritime sector calls for more efficient, robust, and optimized electrical drive architectures. In this context, this paper investigates a high-voltage doubly fed induction machine (DFIM) propulsion drive supplied by two identical PWM voltage source inverters (VSIs), one connected to the stator and the other to the rotor. The converters are fed by galvanically isolated DC links obtained from phase-shifted transformer secondaries and rectifier bridges, which limits fast electrical coupling and enhances robustness and fault tolerance.
