A comparative study on the water treatment effects of different advanced oxidation technologies in a water treatment system based on double-sided photovoltaic-thermoelectric generators

Abstract:
This study explores the integration of a double-sided PV-TEG system with water treatment to utilize the full spectrum of solar energy (infrared, visible, and ultraviolet). Unlike conventional systems that separate electricity generation and water treatment, this innovative approach combines both functions. We examine the effects of various advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) on water treatment performance and their impact on the PV system. Experimental results show that the coupling of the water treatment system with the double-sided PV-TEG has minimal impact on PV performance. Among the AOPs tested, the UV/Fenton method achieves higher degradation efficiency for Orange II, while photocatalysis performs better for Rhodamine B. In the Fenton control group, the degradation rates for both dyes increased significantly under light exposure. Degradation efficiency for Rhodamine B decreases with higher pollutant concentrations but improves with increased oxidant levels. These findings provide valuable insights for optimizing photovoltaic-integrated water treatment systems.
